Film remake process.
FILM
REMAKE PROCESS
Once we had finished our storyboards we moved on to editing
using final cut pro. Now having experience with this software after using it to
edit our ‘swedes’ we felt more comfortable therefore hoping to become more
successful with our final piece.
By using our storyboards it helped us understand each shot
in detail as we took note of the four microelements mise en scene, camera,
sound and edit within the original clip. We then used this as a foundation for
our shot by shot remake to portray ‘killers’ as best as we could in our own
version.
Furthermore we decided to use our college environment due to
the lack of time and bad weather, however the section of the clip we used in ‘
Killers’ was set in a café therefore this was ideal to use to cafeteria. In order to ensure our mise en scene was
similar to the clip, we positioned tables appropriately and used fellow peers
to create a busy atmosphere. In addition
we used significant props such as a book and postcard, which was used in the
clip to create suspense. We also used glasses for one of the characters because
this ‘prop’ would made it easier for the audience to identify who they were
according to the original clip. Using several levels and angles it enabled us to
emphasis the protagonist and the idea some characters where superior and
inferior, as this indicated how the scene was filled with tension and mystery.
Moreover during the editing process we watched each clip
through discarding the footage not needed and uploaded the clips we decided to
use on to final cut pro. Watching the original clip we matched each shot to the
sequence of the film and placed them in order on the timeline. However once
placing all the shots onto the timeline we found it difficult to match it
identically to the ‘Killers’ .We realised how we could have improved our shots
and filmed from various other angels, for example rather than filming a
character walking towards the camera we filmed them walking away, this mistake
was due to the lack of minor detail that was not noted on the storyboard. Nevertheless
regardless of this mistake we were able to alter this fault through final cut
pro, cutting the clip to best fit the sequence allowing it to flow and still
make sense.
To finalise our film remake it was essential to add sound to
our clip. We added an instrumental; called Hip Hop instrumental – Underground
shit (piano). We used this non-diegetic sound because its quite similar to the
film that we were remaking which is the ‘killer’s. In the original clip of the
‘killers’ we saw how at the beginning of the clip the sound was quite upbeat
tempo but as the mode changed the sound changes and becomes more sinister. We attempted to incorporate this idea within
our clip as the instrumental performs similar effects, which the audience can
notice.
Through the use of the four microelements we were able to
create a similar shot by shot remake of the ‘Killers’ successfully. Although
changes could have been made throughout this process, we believe that overall
we produced an effective amateur remake.
