Genre and Sub Genre
What is
meant by Genre? A genre is a certain type of film although it can be used for
other types of media as well. From doing research I learnt that a genre is
formed by the use of conventions. For example a horror film would consist of
different conventions than a comedy. But Some films can also cross between
Genre like action- thriller films. Personally my favourite types of film Genre
is either Thriller or Horror. Although Horror films generally don't have well
planned storey lines, the sense of adrenaline you get from watching one makes
the film Genre so much more interesting.
A
Sub Genre is a Genre within a Genre for example a thriller Sub Genre could be
an action-thriller or a crime-thriller etcetera. Personally my favourite
Thriller Sub Genre is Crime- Thriller because as well at getting the suspense
and tension from the thriller, the element of crime allows you to see the story
line from two sides, the side of the criminals and also the side of the Law
abiding. This can also be labelled as the protagonist verses the antagonist.
Some of my favourite films genres are listed below:
Depending on what type of
thriller sub genre our group want to go into, these films could be beneficial
because we would be able to take certain things about the films and incorporate
them into our own. But if as a group we don't go down this route then its no
harm knowing about it.
